About me

Reem Alhosani is an Emirati artist based in Ajman, United Arab Emirates. She is currently a senior majoring in Visual Arts at the College of Arts and Creative Enterprises at Zayed University, Dubai. Her work involves Painting, Drawing, sculpture, Photography, and Bookbinding. Reem’s works revolve around themes of memory, identity, perception, and time, reflecting on the complex relationship between personal experiences and how they shape one’s understanding of the world.

Her interest in art began at a young age, when her aunt would organize art and crafts activities during Ramadan, Eid and other special occasions. During that time, Reem developed a fascination with paper folding (Origami), which led her to create art activities for children. Encouraged by her family, Reem’s passion for art grew throughout the years.

Furthermore, Reem participated in Solid Echoes exhibition, held in 2023 at Zayed University, Dubai. She made a sculpture showcasing her evolving style and thematic interests. Reem aspires to complete her bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts and to continue developing her artistic practice.

Artist Statement

I have been always interested in time perspective, exploring how people go through time and how time flows differently with each person. My work explores the themes of identity, memory, perception, and time, reflecting on the complex relationship between personal experiences and how they shape one’s understanding of the world. I draw inspiration from my own memories, focusing on how they change and distort over time. My fascination with the perception of time has led me to reflect my own relationship with time, both as a child and as an adult, and to explore whether others might relate to this experience or not.

Moreover, I find my inspiration from the Impressionist movement, focusing on the idea of capturing an impression of reality rather than a direct representation. In addition to my own personal experiences in life so far. Reflecting objects are the most interesting thing for me to paint. I love how reflections create layers within an image, revealing unexpected shapes and colors. I'm particularly drawn to still life painting because it allows me to carefully arrange objects, control the lighting, and explore the intricate details of reflections. Usually when starting an artwork, I start with researching about a specific topic. Then I view as many artworks as I could for inspirations. After that is the process of thinking and sketching starting by making small sketches, combining them, then coming up with a final sketch. Moreover, I prefer to work with paints as I find great joy in the process of mixing colors.

My approach involves layering, blending, and manipulating the paint to create depth and texture. However, my work is not limited to one medium only, I’m interested in experimenting with other mediums as well. To sum up, I view art as a form of expressing my perspective by exploring various mediums. I hope that the viewer will be able to reflect on their own relationships with memory, time, and identity as I do to myself.
